Peats Ridge Music Festival
A wonderful three days meeting people, talking about the ocean and creating some colourful sea creatures for the New Years Eve parade. Thanks to everyone for their warm support and interest in the Coral Sea, and especially to the volunteers who donated their time and creative verve to the cause! To see some pictures from the New Years Eve Parade, check out our facebook album here.
Protect our Coral Sea at Middle Harbour Public School
Beth spoke at Middle Harbour Public School to 500 children and their teachers about the importance of ocean conservation and the Coral Sea. The kids were fascinated by the wonderful underwater footage, and it was a real feat getting all 500 of them to participate in a group exercise demonstrating how many large ocean going fish we've lost in the last fifty years. Barry of course stole the show, and lots of children came up afterwards to say hi and give him a cuddle.
World Animal Day Art Workshop at the Canterbury Earlwood Caring Community Centre/>
A very fun day creating some marine inspired artwork with some truly talented kids at the Canterbury Earlwood Caring Community Centre. It was a pleasure to experience their enthusiasm for protecting our Coral Sea, and to witness some budding artists in the mix. Thanks to the Canterbury Earlwood Caring Community Centre for having us along to run a school holiday workshop, and to our lovely volunteer Marijana for all of her help on the day. The biggest thankyou goes to the kids, especially those who donated some of their work to us, you've brightened up our office a whole lot!

Noisy By Choice, Burwood Festival
Noisy By Choice was a youth talent quest run by Burwood Youth Advisory Group and held at Burwood Festival to promote young talent and to support the Protect our Coral Sea campaign. It was a lot of fun with Big Barry even making a cameo appearance during one of the performances! Congratulations to the winner
Georgia Sallybanks, and thank you to Burwood Mayor John Faker for signing our petition to create the world's largest marine park. Support from the Burwood community has been incredible.
Strathfield Spring Festival
A wonderful day of family fun with lots of kite making and colouring in. Plenty of Strathfield locals dropped by and gave their support. Big Barry the blow up fish was as popular as ever! Thanks to everyone who signed the petition.
Threatened Species Day Workshop at Belmore South Public School
Students at Belmore South Public school learnt about marine life in the Coral Sea while making some marine themed kites to mark Threatened Species Day. Students were very enthusiastic and we were especially impressed by one classes coral reef corner!
It was exciting to share this important information with these young students because they are the future. Their knowledge and passion for our ocean is key in ensuring that unique and vibrant places like the Coral Sea are properly looked after.
World Oceans Day
On June 8 we unfurled a big blue canvas in Martin Place (an empty ocean!). Over the course of the day we invited people to help us put the fish back into the Coral Sea.
Proud Local Supporter - Tanya Behr
“If the Coral Sea became a protected marine park it would help restore many threatened species such as sharks, whales, dolphins, tuna, turtles. This is vital for our ecosystem. We need to change the way we treat our oceans before it’s too late.”
Tanya is a passionate diver who works for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). She is also an eco diver so she directly experiences the human impact upon the ocean.
She has joined thousands of other people from NSW in signing our petition to support the protection of the Coral Sea. Now, she also regularly volunteers with the Protect our Coral Sea team on stalls, helping us spread the word far and wide about the need to protect such an iconic marine area.
