Threatened Species Day special message
Wednesday September 7, 2011
Today is Threatened Species Day where we pause to remember the death of the last Tasmanian Tiger at Hobart Zoo in 1936, and to think about the many other species in Australia which could face a similar fate if not properly protected.
Over 340 bird and animal species in Australia’s Coral Sea are included on the International Red List of Threatened Species…that's a huge number! These include Bigeye tuna, Vulnerable; Yellowfin; Near Threatened, Albacore tuna; Near Threatened.
Today you can check out and share this great short video showing our Ambassadors John Williamson, Tim Winton, Jesse Martin, Pat Rafter, Kristy Hinze, Isabel Lucas and Akira Isogawa as well as other Australians commemorating Threatened Species Day by showing their support for the protection of the Coral Sea.
