We dedicate this enewsletter to the memory of all of the brave men who fought and died in the Battle of the Coral Sea, Lest We Forget.

Hope for Earth's blue heart - Dr Sylvia Earle declares the Coral Sea a Hope Spot!

Dr. Sylvia Earle, renowned oceanographer, conservationist and Patron of the Protect Our Coral Sea campaign, announced in early April that the Coral Sea is one of the special places in this world that is critical to the health of the ocean – a Hope Spot! See more on the Mission Blue website here.

May 9, Noon – 5:30pm - Wetlands Festival, Brisbane
The Protect Our Coral Sea team will be at Nudgee Beach Reserve, Nudgee Beach QLD. Come and visit us at our stall.

May 11, The End of the Line Screening in Brisbane
Nicola Temple from the Australian Marine Conservation Society will be talking fishing and the Coral Sea at the Brisbane screening of this powerful film. Dendy Portside cinema at 6:30pm.

May 12, End of the Line Screenings in Far North Queensland
The End of the Line film will be presented by Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) and the JCU Environment Group at James Cook University, Cairns Campus, McGregor Road, Smithfield, at 5.30pm at the old Yacht Club on Wednesday 12 May. See www.cafnec.org.au for more details.

May 13-16, Mind Body Spirit Festival in Sydney
The Protect Our Coral Sea team will be at this festival in Darling Harbour at the Sydney Exhibition Centre. Come along and visit our stall.

May 23, Picnic in the Park, Brisbane
Cannon Hill Anglican College will be hosting a Picnic in the Park as part of their Wetlands Festival. The Protect our Coral Sea team will be there. If you are interested in helping out at this event, please contact nicolatemple@amcs.org.au. Come and join us!

May 30, Noosa Integrated Catchments Association
NICA will be hosting a talk about the Coral Sea as part of their River to Sea Initiative. Come along – details are: 2-4pm @ Tewantin Golf Course, 46 Cooroy Noosa Rd, Tewantin QLD. Please ring (07) 5449 9650 if you are interested in attending.


Recent News

BluesFest, Byron Bay and Cairns
In between pumping tunes and delightful food, Bluesfest goers in Byron Bay demonstrated huge support for the protection of our Coral Sea. Over 2100 people came and said g'day at our stall at Australia's biggest Blues festival over the Easter long weekend. Thank you for your overwhelming support in Cairns and Byron Bay.

Sydney supports the Coral Sea

The Protect Our Coral Sea team had stalls at the Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic reserve community event, Sydney Quarantine Station Community event and at Paddington and Rozelle markets.

Would you like to help in Cairns?

The Cairns and Far North Environment Centre will be holding community information and petition signing stalls around Cairns and the wider region. If you would like to volunteer some time helping out with a stall or help to spread the word in your neighbourhood, just call Steve at CAFNEC on 07 4032 1746, or email him on marine@cafnec.org.au
