Welcome to the first eNewsletter

Hello dear supporter,

Firstly, a big thank you goes out to all of you who have supported the campaign by sending an e-letter to your federal MP or the Prime Minister. To date 5,500 e-letters have been sent.  Recently two of the Coral Sea team presented the first 3,000 e-letters to Queensland Senator Claire Moore who in turn presented them to Minister Peter Garrett’s office.

Ambassadors

The campaign has wonderful Ambassadors who, over the coming months, will help spread the message about the Coral Sea.  We would like to thank Isabel Lucas, Tim Winton, Kristy Hinze, Jim Clark, Pat Rafter, Wayne 'Rabbit' Bartholomew, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Chris Ritchie AO, Vice Admiral (Rtd) David Shackleton AO and last but not least, our wonderful Patron, Dr Sylvia Earle, for their generous support.

A win for the campaign!

On Tuesday, 17 November 2009, the Australian Senate voted to support Minister Peter Garrett's Coral Sea conservation zone. A motion by two coalition Senators to disallow the conservation zone was voted down by the Australian Labor Party, the Australian Greens and Independent Senator Nick Xenophon - our Coral Sea Heroes.

The Protect Our Coral Sea team hits the streets

The Protect our Coral Sea team has taken to the streets armed with clipboards and never-ending enthusiasm!

You might have seen us at Stradbroke Island's Island Vibe Music Festival drumming up support to protect this irreplaceable part of the ocean. And again at the Surfstock Festival at Kirra Beach and at the Yungaburra Folk Festival. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who are the real stars of the show - we definitely couldn't have done it without your ongoing commitment.

The End Of The Line film screened at the Cairns Civic Theatre on 7 November 2009. Over 200 people attended the only Cairns screening of this important film that brings the plight of our oceans into the public spotlight and underlines the need for a Coral Sea Heritage Park.
